The LOTUS Theory 1 was a groundbreaking exploration in the form of a new Design Manifesto for Lotus. This visionary project showcased an experimental car that encapsulated the future of intelligent performance and the brand’s ethos, For the Drivers. The Theory 1 stands as the ultimate expression of Lotus’ core design principles, pushing boundaries while staying true to its iconic heritage.
As part of the collaborative team, I contributed to the development of the car's user interface (UI), both within the interior and on the exterior. My specific focus was on designing and integrating overlaying graphical elements into the screen UI, enhancing how key driving information was presented to the user. These graphical elements aimed to create an intuitive and visually engaging experience, ensuring that the information was both accessible and aesthetically aligned with the car’s innovative design philosophy.
We brainstormed extensively, experimenting with numerous approaches to communicate essential driving metrics such as speed, direction, acceleration, and braking. The solution we ultimately settled on was a distinctive and elegant set of “needles” that visually conveyed these metrics in a seamless and dynamic manner. This approach not only provided critical driving feedback but also contributed to the car’s futuristic and cohesive aesthetic.
Special credit goes to Vladislav Solovjov for conceptualizing and visualizing this bold and innovative feature, as well as to Jonny Seven for his exceptional work on the UI graphical elements integrated into the steering wheel
My contributions to the overlaying graphical elements helped refine this vision, ensuring that the car’s UI was both functional and a true embodiment of Lotus’ design principles.
